Datacom Technologies NETcat 800 is the affordable, common sense, diagnostic LAN tool. The NETcat 800 is specifically designed for network support personnel responsible for the maintenance and modification of LAN installations. The NETcat 800 is the low cost solution. For the MIS manager who requires a versatile verification tool to maintain LANs but cannot justify the expensive price of a deluxe, certification tool for every installer or field technician, the NETcat is the logical choice. The NETcat 800 is a comprehensive tester. It measures all critical LAN performance characteristics including: Length via TDR, NEXT, Attenuation, Signal-to-Noise Ratio, Impulse and Background Noise, and Ethernet Traffic. The NETcat 800 reduces down-time and simplifies trouble shooting. Measured results are compared against applicable IEEE.802 LAN specifications and results are provided by a simple PASS/FAIL indication, so even non-technical service personnel can test and maintain LAN installations. Other features that distinguish the NETeat 800 are AUTOTEST and SPECL4,L FUNCTIONS. When testing twisted pair cables in AUTOTEST, the NETcat 800 checks Background Noise, Wire Map, NEXT, Attenuation, Length Anomalies and Characteristic Impedance. If any of the test results exceed applicable IEEE.802 LAN specifications, the NETcat 800 displays an Intermediate FAIL screen which specifies the test the cable failed. For Coax cable, the NETcat 800 performs the same series of tests and displays the same screens with the exception of NEXT and Attenuation. Under SPECIAL FUNCTIONS the user can choose Custom Setup, Reset to Default or Selftest. Custom Setup allows the user to change Units of Length, Fault Threshold or Noise Threshold and turn the Audible Tone ON or OFF. Reset to Default resets the NETcat 800 to factory default values. Selftest verifies proper operation of the NETcat 800. Like Datacom Technologies' other hand-held LANcats, the 1800, 1500 and 1200, the NETcat 800 is rugged, portable and well designed. The test mode is quickly selected by a seven position, twist-and-select rotary switch, augmented by four pushbuttons. Results are clearly displayed on a four line sixteen character display. The NETcat 800 is dependable and trouble free. It requires only two common 9 volt Alkaline batteries which provide up to 10 hours of typical use. The NETcat 800 automatically powers down after five minutes of inactivity. Split Pairs are determined during NEXT testing. 3. Jabber (Traffic > 20ms) 1. Link pulse generation to activate 1OBaseT hub. 2.
