Supersized Bookmatched Black Walnut, Kiln Dried! The walnut tree this came from was removed from a building site, and was quite large. This walnut, as with all our walnut is not steamed, meaning it has much better color. Steamed walnut allows large operations to leach the colors out of the heartwood into the sap, which sort of works, but leaves the whole thing dead looking and the color of coffee. Compare them. You can really tell side by side. We use a dehumidifaction kiln which retains color just like air dried lumber, which in walnut and cherry means superior colors.
