Trade names: Viton (duPont) Fluorel (3M) Superior resistance to broader range of chemicals and temperature range than Nitrile. Excellent resistance to petroleum based products, diester lubricants, most silicone fluids, solvents and acids except fuming nitric. Good for vacuum service and low gas permeability. Not good for cold temperature. Excellent resistance to tear and abrasion with high tensile strength. Not for use with acetates, methyl alcohol, ketones, brake fluids, hot water, and steam. Viton has excellent resistance to high temperatures, ozone, oxygen, mineral oil, synthetic hydraulic fluids, fuels, aromatics and many organic solvents and chemicals. Low temperature resistance is normally not favorable and for static applications is limited to approximately -15°F although in certain situations it is suitable down to -40°F. Under dynamic conditions, the lowest temperature expected is between -5° and 0° F. Gas permeability is very low and similar to that of butyl rubber.
