The first thing we did with the generator was to gas it up and do a break-in load test. The reason for this test is to see if it will fail in any way before the power goes out and we really need it. We ran the unit for 8 hours at 25 amps per leg or approximately 80 % load and it didn?t miss a beat. Total gas consumption was just over six gallons in 8 hours. When switching from no load to full load the generator would pick up the load almost instantly without the usual brownouts expected from a portable generator. Frequency regulation which is very important with electronic equipment was superb varying no more than a few cycles for a fraction of a second as the loads where switched on and off. As for features the electric start was a mandatory when the lights go out I want to push a button and have power NOW. The built in hour meter makes keeping track of run time for maintenance simple and easy. Since I have a transfer switch I didn?t use it the supplied cord set however it is a real nice safety feature for those who do not have a transfer switch. The cord allows one to safely and easily connect home appliances while keeping the generator a good distance from the home. The Generac 410 OHV engine has full pressure lubrication with a spin on automotive type oil filter this provides two major features. One is it allows the user to do oil changes ever 100 hours vs. the standard 24 hours with non-pressure lubricated units. To me this is quite important as last year after Wilma we where on a portable generator for three weeks and that worked out to an oil change every other day. With this unit it I can stretch that out to a single oil change per week. The other feature is unit life. A standard single cylinder air cooled non-pressure lubricated engine if properly maintained will run about 1000 hours before it starts having problems and it?s output power starts dropping. A pressure-lubricated engine if properly maintained can triple that lifespan. This one was the best bang for the buck. The Pros: has handled all the power I have demanded from it. 2 fridges , air conditioner , tv, lights , and some fans all going at the same time. The fridges are full of thousands of dollars of medicine and is very important they keep cold at all times. The only negatives i have really is that it is Loud, and I was expecting alot of noise from such a huge generator , and it hasnt dissapointed in the Loud department. But when it is 95 degrees at night and the power is out , Power is all that matters , and this baby never falters." Was this review helpful to you?
