Well in theory probably still in the stone age, as we would not have had the Bronze Age yet. Copper was the first mineral man extracted from the earth to make utensils, weapons and tools and since the early days it has become invaluable. Copper is a heavy metal. It is salmon pink/metallic and can easily be forged. It has a very high electric conductivity and heat conductivity. When exposed to humidity, a green oxide layer is formed (patina) which prevents from further corrosion. Applications: Due to its high electric conductivity Copper is used for the production of wires and bus bars. It is also used as production material, especially for roof sheetings and gutters, but also in the machine and apparatus construction as well as for cartridges or coins. Because of its excellent heat conductivity it is used for heating tubes or brew kettles, dishes and soldering guns. A big part of Copper is used in alloys.
