The black donut-like thingies are, well, just that. They are called donut bumpers, and install on the bottom of your metroself unit, right above the caster. This prevents the caster and the standard (pole) from coming into direct contact with the wall, you, or other objects. The other bumper thingies I can't find on Metro's website, but I have seen them in kitchen applications. If you have threaded plugs in the TOP of your standards, you can thread these thingies into them to act as a bumper for the top of the standard. Just why, I'm not sure, but that is what they are.
