These are packaged in a brand new 1 gallon can! Stainless steel 18-8, 300 series, is austenitic stainless steel. When nickel is added to stainless steel in sufficient amounts the crystal structure changes to "austenite". The basic composition of austenitic stainless steels is 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Stainless steel austenitic steel has excellent corrosion resistance in organic acid, industrial and marine environments. There are several types of stainless steel. The 300 series which contains nickel is not magnetic. The 400 series which contains chromium but not nickel are magnetic.
