On any Terminal Program, you will see memory tests, environment variable tests, com1 and com2 tests. (All this to prove that system hardware works and is alive, diagnotic tests passes) *** Evaluation board comes with one ethernet port, dual com ports, M II interface and four PCI slots. *** Using any RS-232 serial cable and any terminal program, (LINUX's Minicom app, for example) one can see the evaluation platform do self diagnosis check, memory check and then finally tries to boot up from the ethernet. ***** See screen captured photos below***** *** Terminal program will have to be initially set to comm parameters 9800-8-N-no hardware flow control. (Serial port cable - as shown in the pictures in this listing - is plugged into the TOP serial port. This is WRONG. Serial port cable should be plugged into the LOWER serial port. [4] configure and build your own version of your kernel. (selecting services that you want and not selecting services that you don't want) [5] develop device drivers that you might need. [6] develop your embedded linux application. We want to stress these facts: [1] You have to have your own tools, compilers, debugger, emulators and FLASH EPROM programmers. [2] We do not supply these, neither do we provide tutorials and technical support on code developement. [3] Neither do we supply any associated LINUX KERNEL and BOOTLOADER. ** Not for the casual programmer ** [1] Guaranteed 405GP evaluation board EXCHANGE for DOAs. [3] Item #1 above applies ONLY to DOAs. If the 405GP motherboard does the diagnostic routines properly, without hanging, with the FLASH PROM I provided - that is as good as it gets. This is MY criteria of a PASS/FAIL of the 405GP Evaluation board. [4] If system misbehaves with any other FLASH PROM (with a different hex file content) , then, obviously, failure is software related. In this case, it isn't considered a DOA.
