HP 8660C Signal Generator_ Calibrated – Working / Tested Money back if not as advertised This is an HP 8660C Signal Generator with option 100 (Frequency Extension Module), H21 (Don’t know what this is) and GPIB (based on the HPIB connector on the rear). It includes an HP 86602B RF plug in and an HP 86633B AM/FM Modulation plug in. This mainframe also has the latter/better time base (the one with two frequency adjustments - coarse and fine) which is much more stable and makes adjustment much less difficult. The HP 8660C is a synthesized Signal Generator providing 1 HZ signal resolution and AM, FM, PM, and Pulse modulation modes (depending on RF and Modulation plug ins used). Frequency range is from 1KHz to 2600 MHz. The HP86602B provided with this generator covers 1KHz to 1300 MHz (1 Hz steps) and the HP 86633B supports CW, AM, FM to 100 KHz Deviation in 3 ranges (narrow, medium, wide). The HP 86602B covers 1 to 1300 MHZ with an output of +10 dBm. The HP 86633B provides AM plus 3 FM ranges – this is the best of the HP 8663X FM modulators because the FM carrier is phase-locked to the time base – in the other FM modulator (HP 86632 this is not true and the carrier can “wanderâ€). I’ve run the generator continuously for 4 days before doing a final check of the time base and taking the output on a spectrum analyzer as shown in the pictures. I believe this is probably (electrically) the best HP 8660s you will find on e-bay for some time. It has been my experience that many HP 8660s have phase lock problems unless they have been recently adjusted (look at the pictures to confirm it is phase locked). Cosmetics of this unit are basically good. There are two chipped / broken knobs (RF signal level, and sweep speed). The face plate is quite good; there are some scratches and “sticker burns†on the top and sides. The fan is good (many have problems with the fan motor which then “fries†the poser supply). This unit is sound and functional. With care it should provide good stable service. I will include a CD with all the service information I have for your convenience.
